Lithium carbonate is an inorganic compound existing as a white crystalline powder. It exhibits low solubility in water but dissolves readily in acidic media, releasing carbon dioxide gas. The compound is stable under ambient conditions but decomposes upon heating above 723°C to lithium oxide and CO2. It is hygroscopic and requires storage in dry, sealed containers to prevent moisture absorption. Its alkaline nature makes it reactive with acids.
