Barium sulfate is a dense, white crystalline inorganic compound. It is highly insoluble in water and most acids, exhibiting exceptional chemical stability. BaSo4 also finds application in pigments due to its bright white color and opacity. Structurally, it adopts an orthorhombic crystal system with distinct cleavage planes.
